If Rick had toured Broken China

    Hi folks

On my way to work this morning I started thinking what if Rick had taken Broken China on the road.
He is the only Floyd member who never went out on his own playing concerts.
I read somewhere that he had considered going on a solo tour with his last album, but sadly that never happened.
What would the setlist have been if he had gone on the road?

My bet is he would have played the whole of Broken China and maybe a few from Wet Dream, and then a selection of Pink Floyd songs.

    So something like this:

    First Set:
    - Broken China album

    Second.set:
    - Cluster One
    - Us and Them
    - Wearing the Inside Out
    - Against the Odds
    - Pinks Song
    - Holiday
    - Stay
    - Summer 68
    - The Great Gig in the Sky

    Encore
    - A Saucerful of Secrets

I guess he would have invited Snowy White to play and probably David as a guest for a couple of songs.

I Realise this is pure speculation, but in a parallel universe this might have happened 😃

He 100% would have kept touring with David in 2015 and 2024, and become a core member in Nick's band probably permanently. I don't think he was ever going to tour Broken China. He had plans to reside in France to record his next album but cancer caught up with him and he was never able to do it. So realistically, Rick's first solo tour (if he ever had interest in touring by himself with musicians he liked) would most likely be most of his new album, if not entirely; select tracks from Broken China; maybe two or three from Wet Dream; and some early Floyd classics as well as Wearing The Inside Out.

Yeah I'm also sure he would have stayed in David's band. Not so sure about him joining the Saucers, but he would probably have made a guest appearance.
I can't remember where I read it, but pretty sure it was mentioned that he had given thought to going on a solo tour after the release of Broken China.
I would really love to hear some of the music he was working on up until his untimely passing, supposedly there's a really beautiful instrumental piece. Maybe some day we get to hear it.

It would have been nice to hear Mediterranean C with Gilmour on guitar, Just for whatever

I always thought it was a shame he didn't at least play a few Broken China shows. I think it would've been more likely a second set of just Floyd songs though. I'm so glad we got a recording of him singing Wearing The Inside Out eventually.

I think I remember reading somewhere that he didn’t really like his singing voice. Not sure if that was a direct quote from him or something that was just said on a forum somewhere, which as we know can often be incorporated into the public narrative. So if that is the case, I could certainly see the whole of Broken China being performed as a pretty hefty chunk was instrumental or had Sinead singing. Probably some stuff from Wet Dream but I really don’t know what Floyd stuff he would actually touch. I could see Wearing the Inside Out, not so much Summer’68. At that point in his life I really doubt he would’ve been revisiting his old songs about one night stands, as hilarious that would be.

I don’t know if he didn’t tour because he just decided not to when it came down to it, or if it would have been a matter of securing funding. He didn’t have the name recognition Roger and David had, and while fan enthusiasm would’ve been there, did either of his albums sell all that well?

A limited run of theater shows would have been special though.

I have no doubt whatsoever that fans would be enthusiastic if Rick were to tour

I simply cannot imagine the opposite situation

That would have been a good set to see live for sure. Echoes would be a great encore. I'm hoping they give Broken China a Vinyl release at some point.

It was really great to see him doing Breakthrough in Paris 2002, but of course it would have been awesome to see a complete Broken China

Rick hooks up with Steve Hackett and they do a tour. Cirrus Minor and ASOS are in the setlist.

I love Broken China too and a Rick-driven set list would have been a great show. At least we got to see him perform Breakthrough with Dave.

There’s a version of "Man of Custom" that later transformed into "Woman of Custom," featuring David on vocals. This evolution took place during the period surrounding the creation of "The Endless River." Andy Jackson mentioned this during one of his interviews on surround sound design.

Wikipedia indicates that Rick considered touring Broken China but concluded it would not be "financially viable" which I will admit makes sense considering the album sank like a stone shortly after its release as I recall. Not even the associated interest from the recent (at that time) Pink Floyd album and tour could boost its sales. Pity. I would have loved to hear him do Remember A Day live. Or Stay. Oh, well...
And ultimately, who gives a fuck anyway?

This is the first I hear of this.
