Rick Wright told a story of everyone splitting up on a Friday and when they reconvened the following week Syd had changed, Rick said Syd had done something and destroyed part of his brain.

yeah but that story is clearly false. It contradicts common sense (acid doesn't work that way), as well as statements from his family and what Roger, Nick and Gilmour have said later.
I guess we will never know exactly what happened, as mental illness is a complex issue, but I'm absolutely 100% sure that it did not happen that way.

I know a few people that had really bad trips and were completely different right after for a long time.
