Fingal's Cave Podcast Episode #6 - Ian Priston & Phil Salathé on Pink Floyd at the BBC: "These sessions tell the story of the band"

    Hello Everyone!

Another three weeks are gone and we have a new episode out!

In this edition i talk to Ian Priston and Phil Salathé about their work on the bestselling book "Pink Floyd BBC Radio 1967-1971". Phil explains how this collaboration came about and Ian talks about surprising finds in the BBC archives and the immense help from the fan community.

On a personal note: This episode means a lot to me, because it reflects on many different topics/chances and problems we have as a community like the one we have here at R&D.

Very enjoyable. I need to read the book again now. Got the Prof Stoned v2 BBC set lined up ready for when I’m preparing our dinner later.

A really wonderful and fascinating listen and particularly to give hope for an updated second edition of the book with new discoveries and a stand-alone and improved release of the BBC sessions. To hear that '...they are ready...' gave me goosebumps. We live in hope. Many thanks Ian, Phil, Nils.

Very true…not intentionality! We look into that!

Another fantastic podcast, thank you! You can really tell the interest and passion both Ian and Phil have for the band, and the unique perspective of each. A lot of this feels very familiar. Hearing about when they met in 2019 made me a little sad because I was invited to join them, but couldn't make it due to some circumstances I don't even remember right now. I missed out. The research and curation of material seems to be in good hands and I really hope something comes of all of it.

                    Wonderful conversation. Thank you guys.

The part where they explain their approach when talking to collectors should be extracted and pinned to the top of the roio offers thread.

Oh and I was rather surprised to hear that the rather small edition of their BBC book is still not sold out.
I would have expected those to be gone after a few months...?

Thanks to this podcast I’ve learned that Up The Kyber from More was part of some live versions of Interstellar Overdrive. For years I’ve dismissed UTK as a throwaway track to be skipped. Now I have a new way of listening to it. Cool!

I always thought it was part of ASOS until this interview. I haven't listened to it yet with this new info though.

Is there any idea how the Prof Stoned updates of the BBC Sessions compares to whatever Ian P and Phil S have compiled (other than the missing Dec 68 recording)?
