According to Instagram, Rick Beato has done a long interview with Gilmour, should be out soon, if you don't know his Youtube channel, he does incredible interviews with musicals and song breakdowns etc

He's getting a reputation and is getting some heavyweights of the music industry - just posted Rick Wakeman interview yesterda. Rick Rubin, Sting, Tony Levin, Alan Parsons, Steven Wilson, Satriani, Vai, Warren Haynes, Brian May, etc. I would imagine he would have pushed hard to get Dave with all of the publicity for the new album. This should be really good. I was waiting in line next to Beato in the Intuit Dome show and it sorta registered in my mind that he was somebody I recognized but I didn't think too much about it. Then at intermission he was in front of me waiting in the men's room, and as we were walking out together, someone approached him and said "Rick Beato, right? I love your videos, can I get a quick pic with you?" I watched them take the pic together, and then I actually saw it turn up on the internet a couple days ago. I'm glad Beato finally caught up with Gilmour, since he'd posted recently that he didn't think he could get access.Comment

Based on the one short alone, my suspicions of this being your average bad Gilmour interview seem to be justified. The FIRST clip we get and it's immediately something we have already heard so many times. He even called it a "chord" and David had to correct him.
I honestly never understood the mass appeal that Beato gets. He asks the very most surface level questions and he seems so corporate. In my own belief, this interview is going to be terrible and teach us nothing new.Comment

In all fairness, you have to put those mass appeal teasers in a promo if you are looking to get the views/clicks/whatever. Hopefully he gets into more in-depth questions on gear or amp settings during the interview but that's not going to get the most initial attention on YT. "Will this guitar play after 50 years in a closet?" type hype on YT is nauseating.

To be absolutely precise, it's Gm6, which is a chord that was already in use at the time. David didn't come up with that, he came up with the arpeggio.
So David was right to correct RB, and you were wrong to defend him. ;-) -
Yeah, the way he ignored DG and called it "that chord" again, felt faintly pointed. But DG didn't come up with a chord, and I think Beato himself would admit that, were anyone to make a real issue of it.

Stop sweating up, Rick is great at his job, a very knowledgeable man.
There is not a lot he doesn't know about music and production.
He is also a Gilmour fan so should deliver a great interview.

To me, he adjusts his schtick accordingly when it comes to how serious the guest is. He knows he can't pussyfoot with Sting. Same thing happened with some others. But most of the time he just feigns ignorance with his guests. It makes the video immediately unwatchable for me. I am hoping for the interview to be interesting, but I know exactly what you mean. It's not just Rick either, it's almost everybody who interviews anybody. I'm sure the artists PR person has guidelines for a lot of the interviews that are done. You can say this and you can ask that, don't mention Roger or politics, make sure you give Polly props and say what a wonderful writer she is, so on and so forth. We're really not getting too much new content out of these guys these days. Every interview with David is somewhat boring IMO, going all the way back, he really seems like he'd rather be doing anything else than talking about Pink Floyd for the gazillionth time.Originally posted by NuffM View Post

Agreed with every single word you said. I can even recall Rick saying something in the Sting interview and Sting outright says (paraphrasing) "that's not right, Rick" or something like that. That podcast David did with Gary and Guy was so unbelievably boring to me. They're legitimately asking him all of these questions that they UNDOUBTEDLY know. Like the story behind the recording studio, when and how David bought it. One half of that team is literally Guy Pratt who recorded IN THAT STUDIO not even a year after it was purchased. Them feigning ignorance during that whole podcast just made me feel so uncomfortable. You guys are friends with this man, you already KNOW all of this information.Comment
