John Latham Versions

Can't seem to find that much on this

I understand he is a performance artist that was at the same poly as RW/RW/NM but what's the story about these recordings?

It was intended (but not used, as far as I know) as a soundtrack for his experimental film 'Speak'. God knows why they're labelled 'versions', they're obviously just sections of a single continuous piece.

The John Latham stuff is unique I think? Syd-era Floyd recorded live in a studio environment stereo, with clear instrument separation. No complex overdubs or weird production decisions. It's a shame it's just a bunch of squeaks and rattles rather than anything musical.

This past discussion in Y! was very enlightening. So glad that someone made Nick aware of the reel, and they got the recordings included on TEY: 1965–1967 Cambridge St/ation. (I'm guessing this is how the John Latham Versions got there.)

Does anyone know which specific bits Syd Barrett is playing on?

Actually looking at the limited Syd-era tape inventory in the Abbey Road vault (which was made public in a book long ago) would have exposed the recording instantly.
And they would have found and used "Reaction In G" and several other far more worthy things too.
But it's easier to not look and say that you've released everything that exists.

Syd played all the guitar parts. I wouldn't know if there was any overdubs for this, doesn't sound like it.
