What song do you think Trump would be stupid enough to use by Pink Floyd and then get immediately sued for using??

Warning everyone right now as this topic could easily get out of hand. For every mile of road, there's two miles of ditch. Three if you're on the Interstate. - Derek Bieri, Vice Grip Garage

Selling song rights to Corporate Masters is the worst. Not that I can stop it if the copyright owner sells attune to a beer company or such. Which reminds me of Cream doing a jingle for Flagstaff beer, That tastes worse than the piss water being sold.
Apart from The Great Gig In The Sky selling bananas I am happy for the grand majority, the Floyd havent sold out any of their tunes

As for the thread topic, neither Trump or (anecdotal evidence) the people I know who “support” him are or seem like the kind of people to listen to Floyd. There may be a surface knowledge of the band from what you’d hear on the radio, but I think something like Money or Brain Damage at a rally would be a bit… well, you know. Regardless of whose rally it was, that would be way too on the nose. I could see Brick 2 popping up somewhere though, ironically in a similar context to how Roger presented it on his recent tour.
I’d be curious to know how many artists whose music he’s used have gone on world tours with visuals akin to him steering a Little Tykes Cozy Coupe showcasing an unflattering artistic depiction of his dong with some swastikas and clansmen on a screen spanning the floor length of an arena. Didn’t one of his sons go to one of those shows, or was that The Wall?Last edited by Emdy; 08-25-2024, 01:58 AM.

As I know it:
Politicians purchase public performance rights to music in the ASCAP/BMI library for playback over the PA systems at political rallies.
No permission from any specific artist is required. They can play any song over the PA system from the library they want. The fee is $20,000 or something like that.
Certain artists can request to stop playing their music, but no action is actually required. It's simply a request. Politicians usually comply out of politeness. I doubt they could be sued because the artist is paid for the song out of the fee paid by the politician anyway.
Bruce Springsteen is an artist who specifically doesn't want his music played at non-Democrat political rallies, for example.
Public Performance rights are quite different than using songs in campaign commercials because that is considered a "new master copy" of the song (or something like that). That does require permission.
If you keep this in mind, articles claiming lawsuits, etc. can all be ignored.

Same holds true for the walk in music heard over the PA system at concerts, I believe. Either the venue pays or the artist pays the fee.
For Roger Waters 1999-2000 In the Flesh Tour, Jim Ladd (I believe) compiled a DAT tape of walk in music for the show. The setlist theme was songs about "waiting." Porcupine Tree: Waiting, Tom Petty: The Waiting, etc.
Neil Peart of Rush was the individual who compiled the walk in music (probably on DAT) for their concerts, for example.

Nah. I'm referring to the fact that during his presidency there were no major military conflicts going on. Then Biden is selected and it's back to business as usual with the MIC Eisenhower warned us about reasserting itself. I don't recall there being large scale military conflicts erupting in Eurasia or the Middle East during Trump's presidency, but I suppose my memory could be faulty. Everything is kind of hazy in the cloud of smoke that billows about me.Last edited by stonytokes; 09-08-2024, 11:54 AM.
