Early Years Box Set - improvements

Apologies if this is covered elsewhere, but I recall a discussion on Y!, at the time of the Early Years box-set release, about better sounding recordings and/or recordings that could/should have been included but weren't. I pretty much never play the box-set because I know that better quality exists elsewhere so I've decided to try and upgrade it to the best possible sound. I'm sure that someone produced a template of where, and how, these improvements could be made to the box-set. If I ever downloaded it, I can no longer find it and it's likely that it's now out of date with newer recordings possibly emerging. I'm not asking for anyone to share any music but I wonder if anyone has such a template that they could post please? I have all the improved BBC recordings (courtesy of Prof Stoned) and I'm sure I'll have all the other music necessary to effect the improvements. Thanks in advance.

If you have Prof Stone's BBC upgrades then your pretty much caught up. The only other recordings that I can think of that were underwhelming were the remastered Pompeii tracks (too much high end) and the phase issue on the Golden Circle recording. Also, Amsterdam 69 has a minor edit removing some non-musical elements during Tea Time.

Thanks, Ron. From memory, there were also quite a few suggestions about material that could/should have been included. Like I'm sure others have, I have odd tracks scattered all over the place on my hard drive. It would be good to find a home for them here. I can probably work through them all on my own but I'm pretty sure that others have already done the heavy lifting

I’m still keeping my fingers crossed for an Early Years box set volume II … maybe one day!

IIRC, in regards to the material that could have been included, I believe that they've never been in circulation. Tracks like Reaction in G. All in all, it's a pretty comprehensive set.

In regards to a second volume of TEY, that's never going to happen.

There's also the bad remastering on some of the stuff that circulates better on boots, such as Amsterdam 1969 which has been noise reduced.

I'd add the Record Store Day Interstellar Overdrive (at the right speed), Astronomy Domine from KQED, and a mono mix of Saucerful of Secrets.

A remix of the Echoes live at Wembley 1974 would be great! The multitracks do exist, and the mix we were given is terribly unbalanced both frequency and volume wise. Vocals are way too present and loud, drums are too quiet, and the guitars and bass sound murky and gross.

How about finally release the complete Wembley concert? When they have the multitracks it should be possible to mix it in 5.1, right? I still haven't purchased the Dark Side of the Moon Live at Wembley just because it's incomplete.

Guessing we can expect some more of Wembley in a 50th WYWH box next year

They already released Shine On, Raving and Drooling and You've Got to be Crazy from Wembley for the Experience and Immersion releases of Wish You Were Here back in 2011.
Dark Side from Wembley 1974 was also already released on the Experience and Immersion release of Dark Side released at about the same time, and now again as part of the 50th anniversary box (which btw contained nothing new at all) as well as a standalone release.
And Echoes as part of The Early Years box set.
The decision to only include the Dark Side portion of the show kind of made the standalone release pointless.
The "Dark Side of the Moon Live at Wembley" release was a lost opportunity.
Not all of us are interested in or can afford to buy every box set, so standalone releases of the most interesting bits would make sense.
Releasing only a portion of it, which at the same time is available at a box set (which, I have to repeat it, contained nothing new at all, and much less than the more comprehensive immersion box set from 13 years ago which retailed at a lower price) is pointless. Yeah, such a lost opportunity! If they first should make a standalone release, they could have released the whole damn thing!

That's not part of The Early Years era, Lars.

But Echoes from that gig is part of the Early Years box set.
If that gig was given a complete standalone release, I doubt they would have included it. Damn all these box-exclusive releases of essential material!

I finally found (on an old external drive) the document that I mentioned in the OP. It was produced by "JJ" who may, or many not, be a member here and was uploaded to Y! As it's now 7 years old it's out of date, certainly with respect to the BBC material. I won't be including all of the suggestions to upgrade my Early Years box-set but will use it to identify stuff on the box-set that definitely does exist in better quality. Anyway, thought I'd put it here in case it's of use to anyone else.

it's funny that someone still thinks that Flaming mono US single has a unique mix compared to the original UK mono Piper release

The complete KQED footage without visual effects would be a triumph.

Having more from that Montreux source that gives us that version of Atom Heart Mother would be good, but I'm not sure what else is out there.

I believe there’s an Astronomy Domine source from Montreux from the same source

That would be amazing, supposedly there was approximately 30 minutes of footage cut from the film. Luckily we got Astronomy Domine which looks amazing and much better than the other KQED footage. Imagine having the whole 90 minutes in that quality without the effects and without all the aerial footage,

According to the producer, it's still out there.

Montreux on TEY is probably the best sounding version of the brassless Atom Heart Mother, right? Anything topping it or coming close?
