Back in the 70s, music by Pink Floyd was also used excessively on television.

Example: The German crime series "Der Kommissar" (~ "The Inspector")
    Season 03, Episode 53 "Mykonos" from Nov. 24, 1972

Munich: A murdered man is found. He had just returned from Mykonos. The trail leads into the drug milieu, which is investigated from top to bottom: from the chic wholesalers to a hippie pub called Nirvana, where Harry has to go undercover.

I wouldn't say it was used excessively. In fact, Pink Floyd kept a pretty tight leash on what they allowed to be used in films and TV for decades.

      Here is another example:

"ARD-Brennpunkt" (~ "ARD Hotspot") is a program supplement of the German television station "Das Erste" (~ "The First"), which was first broadcast on January 6, 1971 under the title "Im Brennpunkt"(~ "In The Hotspot").

The theme music of "ARD-Brennpunkt" is taken from the opening track "Astronomy Domine" from Pink Floyd's 1967 debut album "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn". The composer of the track was Syd Barrett. Additionally, the Morse code for "Focal Point" was underlaid.

Looking at IMDb there are a lot of listings for late 70s gay porn films that have Floyd songs on the soundtrack.

One more cinematic oddity I’ve noticed is that the engine sound effects accompanying the ‘Drop it on em!’ at the end of In The Flesh? are used pretty liberally in most of the James Bond films of the 80s - For Your Eyes Only, Octopussy, A View To A Kill and The Living Daylights all have some sort of place crash sequence that uses that sound as the plane is in distress. Maybe John Glen was a big fan of The Wall?

It might just be a heavily used library clip, like the Wilhelm scream?

Probably is - I just don’t recall hearing it anywhere else besides The Wall and those Bond films.

That's what I remember. Floyd were elusive and mysterious back in the day. I don't remember even hearing much beyond Dark Side tracks and WYWH on any mainstream radio. Discovering Floyd (late! when I was in high school already - so around 1980) was all completely unheard stuff for me. I would have missed the genre mentioned above being the more standard issue type. I remember hearing Dark Side tracks on the radio but not thinking that much of it. A friend played me the Piper album and that's what got my attention and started the deep dive! Kind of appropriate.

I also once published a list of Kung Fu movies with Pink Floyd music, there are quite a few (and probably mostly without asking the band).

Pink Floyd music was certainly used a fair amount in a BBC children's series called The Tyrant King. The music was always in little clips. I watched every episode, hoping to catch some unreleased material. I never did find any audio the seemed worthy of hearing more than once. If you do decide to watch the series, try to guess the ending. I called it after the first episode.

Looks like it is out of print. You didn't miss much. I did appreciate that they went back to the original color master prints when transferring to DVD. (It was broadcast in black & white.)

The company that issued that DVD (Network) ceased trading earlier this year, so if you want it and find it for a reasonable price, don't hesitate.

"A coincidence led the young Eva Schenk into the cheerfully exuberant group in the forester's lodge. Clemens Gerlach was celebrating his 50th birthday with his family and friends. What happens next changes everything and is the beginning of a fatal tragedy. For Clemens Gerlach, 25 years of marriage to his wife Marianne are suddenly nothing more. A new passionate encounter throws him off course. Is it emptiness, curiosity, self-affirmation, a hunger for life or love that gives the new feeling all the room it needs? A happy couple and a wife whose pride has been wounded."

From minute 1:03:45 to 1:05:05, we are dealing with a brazen cover version.

In this case, the composer of the TV series had simply used a very well-known Pink Floyd theme. It's all the stranger because it only lasts about 1:20 minutes in the entire episode. In other words, our Pink Floyd masterpiece was basically sold off for a few minutes of GDR crime drama. Along the lines of: "Hardly anyone here in the GDR knows this anyway.

In this case, the producer of the film only uses the original version of "Breathe" by Pink Floyd at the beginning and end of the film. During the movie, own compositions or pieces by other artists are played.

So right at the beginning after the opening credits and at minute 1:27:13 at the end.
