    Fearless tuning

I've looked up several videos that explain the open tuning for Fearless, but I disagree with them. In one of those radio show retrospectives on the band, I believe one hosted by Jim Ladd, Roger Waters explains exactly what the tuning is. Does anyone remember what this interview show was (or what Roger says the tuning is?

Yes that is what everyone thinks the tuning is, but Roger said he learned it from Syd, and that is not what it is. Unfortunately I have so many recorded interviews it would take me a year of listening through them to find it. The radio show was a 6 hour PF retrospective. That's all I remember

I doubt Roger understands 'tuning' let alone 'open tuning'.

I remember being very frustrated by Fearless back when I was learning guitar and trying to figure out how to play that awesome riff. At the time, the very idea of alternate tunings was foreign to me. Now, with the benefit of another 30-odd years of headscratching and messing around, GGDGBD sounds correct to me.

          I found the quote:

Waters: "What's interesting about it, for me, is that it's interesting musically: (hums riff). Funnily enough, that was a tuning that Syd showed me. It's a really beautiful open G tuning, for anybody who wants to tune their guitar: G-G-D-G-B-B."
And that may be how Roger tuned his guitar, but the more prominent guitar clearly has the high E tuned to D. Seems likely that Gilmour chose the more traditional open G tuning, while Waters stuck with Syd's. Or, the quote could be mistranscribed, or Roger misspoke, or he misremembered.

Thanks Astro. Where did you find it? I thought he quoted a double B but wasn't sure enough to say that in the post.

Thanks for the laugh. He couldn't even tune his bass. Richard had to do that for him. Who tuned Waters Bass after he kicked Rick out of the band?

I listened to this track for the first time in ages to see if there are any clues. There are some open string harmonics early on, but they don't reveal much.

I reckon you could try using G-B-D-G-B-D and it would work.
