    Ummagumma remaster - Sysyphus

    Ummagumma remaster 1994

    When the Ummagumma CD was remastered in 1994, the record company altered the parts of Sysyphus.
    AFAIK:
    Original Part One was split in two, (becoming Parts 1 & 2);
    original Part Two became Part 3;
    original Part Three was combined with original Part Four (becoming Part 4).

    Was there a reason given for these changes?
    Was Richard Wright consulted?

      Why does this label state (Artist: 1. David Gilmour; 2,3. Roger Waters) Is that a typo, as Rick Wright composed the first track. And why duplicate that information, since it is also printed behind the songtitles...

      The first metion is the artist performing the tune - The credits are the artist who wrote the tune. Even if it seems to be redundant, for me it makes sense.

    Yes they were always four parts. But they are separate tracks on the CD, and also separate are The Narrow Way and The Grand Vizier's Garden Party. Meaning the disc has 12 tracks in total, not 5.

    The same happens in the 1994 remaster and the 2011 and 2016 CD releases.

    Not owning an LP version I never knew the division points for each part were different on CD than those on the LP.

      To clarify my post:

      Original Part One (approx. 4:37) was split in two, becoming the now-current Part 1 (approx.1:08) & the now-current Part 2 (approx.3:30);

      Original Part Two became the now-current Part 3 (approx. 1:49);

      Original Part Three (approx. 3:13) was combined with Original Part Four (approx.3:41), becoming the now-current Part 4 (approx. 6:56).

      So, composition-wise, just as the piano starts after the opening theme it is faded-away and is separated off as the now-current Part 2.
      And, the "crash" that opened the Original Part Four now happens in the middle of the now-current Part 4.

      Hence my two questions!

        Considering the earlier CD issue of The Wall had a similar error with One Of My Turns, I’d say it’s just human error.
