Greetings,
The popularity of this show goes without saying, especially since the release of the pre-broadcast masters in the 1997 time frame. I grew up with the old Great Dane release that had the original broadcast on it and have great memories of listening to this concert over and over again. It was like an unreleased Pink Floyd album that should have seen the light of day, although I do understand that the idea was scrapped due to the overlap with Ummagumma.
At any rate, does anyone here happen to know the original broadcast date of the show or the date of the FM broadcast outside of 1997/1998? I had always heard the original broadcast was on AM radio, but do we know if this is the case as well?
Using Google translate I was able to find out that, according to Charles Beterams as early as September 19, 1969 parts of the concert were to be broadcast in the VPRO radio program, and that this was to be followed later by "significant parts of the concert." As the concert was broadcast it was to be explained by Wim Noordhoek, who I presume to be the "DJ" on the original broadcast.
From what I can tell there is no mention of a specific date for the original broadcast of the fully edited version that fit the 60-minute window they had.
Thanks.
Travis
