Pink Floyd: Who owns the rainbow?

    With eyes open
Pink Floyd: Who owns the rainbow?

    Television broadcast from 03/05/2023

For the 50th release anniversary, a logo in rainbow colors adorns the cover of Pink Floyd's hit album "The Dark Side of The Moon." A reference to the symbol of the LGBTQ+ movement? Artist Aubrey Powell tells the story of how the cover and logo came about.

Noah builds an altar to the Lord after being delivered from the Flood; God sends the rainbow as a sign of his covenant (Genesis 8–9).

Contrary to Aubrey Powell's statement in the above mentioned documentary and also in the official Pink Floyd documentary on YouTube, he now obviously admits that the cover motif of "The Dark Side Of The Moon" has in fact a model from 1942.

To read in this recently published article about the current Hypgnosis exhibition of Marstall in Ahrensburg, Germany:
        https://www.abendblatt.de/region/sto...-the-Moon.html

(Exhibition from 7 July to 24 September 2023)

        ----------

        Quote from the article:

"Cover motif has a model from the year 1942

Against a black background, it shows the refraction of a white beam of light at a prism, which thus fans out into the spectral colors. The motif is borrowed from a classic cover by US graphic designer Alex Steinweiss, which he had already designed in 1942 for Beethoven's 5th Piano Concerto. Whereby in the original a piano instead of a prism provides for the refraction of the light beam."

Interestingly, our RD member direwolf had already made this assumption in this thread before:
