DG Hammersmith Odeon

The new release of the 4k video of DG at The Hammersmith Odeon looks amazing... Does YouTube mess with any of it at all? Would the source material be of higher quality than what we can download from YT? I have to say, what is there is just excellent. I played it last Friday and via VLC did my own EQing and had an absolute blast...so much so, my 5ch power amp went in to thermal shut down on the front LR channels! A first in 10 years of thrashing my ears... Luckily for me the circuits did their job... My amp was red hot... I got up the next morning and i actually felt like I had been to the gig, it was that good... So I'm just wondering if a non YT version would be any better?

Or is it one of those upscales made by fans?

I assume it's this fan upscale. Most of the close ups look better than the old DVD. The wide shots don't really have much improvement. They all have that "unsharp mask" look to them.

Yes, YouTube definitely messes with it. I just received some direct links to most of the files and the Hammersmith show is almost 30GB!
A lot of the 4k videos look great, especially Pompeii (which features 7 audio track options!!!), the 84 Hammersmith concert, the 2002 Meltdown concert, the 1970 Pop Deux TV show, and the Live8 performance. The Final Cut is a bit hit and miss for me. The issue here is that all of this is officially released material and shouldn't be shared here.

It still looks good, I'm just not a huge fan of that type of processing in some cases. Overall this is still a huge improvement over the original that I a/B'd it with. Worth it for the improved clarity of the closeups alone.

You can download them all via a paid subscription to the 4K Pink Floyd channel, it's only $2 per month. Pretty reasonable and you'll be supporting future projects.

Thanks, I'm glad you are enjoying it! I am responsible for the YT channel and I can say that your support helps to maintain the hosting of the files, as the money goes directly to pay the server where the files are hosted. This month the traffic quota has been exceeded, I think the links are being shared between many people, I just hope it doesn't cause any problems with the service (they already limited the download speed).

The source of this DG concert was available in Y!, and it already had a good quality.
