I would say that it varies over time and according to the members of the band. And according to the fans, too, there are the balanced ones and the others.
So...
David likes them, he is comfortable with the audience and laughs willingly on stage
Nick is a true Brit. I read his book and I didn't find anything negative about the fans
Rick... I have no idea. He was shy, always hiding behind a mountain of material
Roger only loves himself

They worked hard to produce outstanding music. For money? Certainly. Only for themselves? I'm sure not.

Syd forgot everyone loved him and he left
