    Scotch/3M Recording Tape

When Is There Anybody Out There? came out I remember James Guthrie saying they had to bake the tape to get the masters to play I don't know the brand of tape.
I found the video below of Frank Zappa's vault and it was mentioned that they like Scotch recording tape because it plays and you don't have to bake it.

Has anyone else heard of the superior long term quality of Scotch recording tape.
On the video link at about 2:06 Scotch tape is mentioned.
The Zappa masters archive makes me wonder where the Pink Floyd masters are.

I use my reel to reel quite regularly, 90% of my tape collection is TDK tape, with the rest being Scotch, BASF and Philips. In my experience the only tape I haven't had to bake yet are my TDKs. I'm getting all my tape used or barely used but still from the late 1970s, so it really depends on how it was stored and cared for. For in-depth information on tape and brands you need to check this site out.
